APPLICATIONS

Bupropion, also called amfebutamone, is used as an antidepressant agent. But it is a monocyclic compound structurally while most antidepressant are tri or tetra cyclic compounds. It inhibits dopamine and norepinephrine transporters but does not inhibit the serotonin transporter. It is also used as a non-nicotine aid to smoking cessation to reduce the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal, though it doesn't have related chemical structure to nicotine. The hydrochloride salt of bupropion is a white crystalline powder with a bitter taste; very soluble in water, methanol and ethanol. The chemical designation is (±)-1-(3-chlorophenyl)-2-[(1,1-dimethylethyl)amino]-1-propanone hydrochloride.
